Wish You Were Here
Copper, Steel
Size 6" x 8"
Paddle boarding the Rogue River is one of my favorite things to do. It gives me the chance to connect with nature in a unique way I hadn't experienced before. This past summer I found myself often snapping pictures and sending them back to my friends in Charleston with the tagline "I wish you were here". This is one in a series of twelve that pay homage to the river that brings me such joy. Crafted by hand, this unique series explores the movement of water and showcases the varying blues achieved through patinas. Hang alone or in a grouping to show the Rogue River journey.

December
Steel
Size 4.5" x 8"
1 of 3
The smallest of the December series, but just as moody. I pulled my favorite element of December and showcased it in a simple frame. Each tree is meticulously welded together using three different sized round rod. Each textured and bent into place to give it a lifelike quality. perfect for the smaller spots in your home or as part of a cluster. Because each is hand made there may be slight variations to each piece.

Heirloom Sunflower Single
Copper, Steel
Size: 8" x 20"
Like its larger counterpart, this single sunflower is in full bloom. I have created steel sunflowers in the past but wanted to add more color. I decided to use copper and a chemical process to bring more reds into the petals. This gave it a summer like quality that will brighten your home. Each petal hammer and welded into place to mimic the individuality of each petal. A marbled rusted background complements the earthy tones while allowing the sunflower to shine. Edges may be sharp, use caution when hanging.

In Focus
Copper, Steel
25” x 14”

Some of my pieces play into emotion however, this one does not. It plays into perspective. When looking at In Focus I wanted to mimic what the eye does naturally when focusing on an object. I wanted the background to fade giving the Cosmo the viewers full attention. The fluttering of the petals pulling the eyes center toward the stamens then down the stem to the foliage. Each part of the flower treated as if it were as delicate as its real counterpart. The bud representing the promise of the future. That although the flower may be at its peak, there’s so much more life still to bloom. Easily hung by a wire on the back of the piece.

June
Copper, Steel
Size: 6" x 11.5"
1 of 3
The smallest of the June series takes the simplistic approach again, highlighting only the poppy. Boasting an electric blue background, the color of the petals pop forward. Paying attention to the detail on the small poppy, leaves the viewer finding new details with every look. Perfect for those smaller spots on your wall, or hang part of a cluster. Because each is made by hand, expect slight variations with each one.

December 11
Copper, Steel
size 12" x 15"
The medium size of the December series with the same drama as its larger counterpart. When creating the medium version of December is was important to me to maintain the contrast of the orange dusk sky against the dark orchard. It gives a moodiness to winter that I didn't want lost in the smaller size. As the light changes in your house so will this piece. The copper background will almost glow against the dark mountains giving it the illusion the sun has just set. The trees resting against a marbled rusted background, dormant waiting for spring.

June 9
Copper, Steel
Size 29" x 40.5"
Early June in the Applegate Valley in Oregon is magical. The flowers burst forward against the fading deep green of winter as if to wish the cold a final farewell. I found myself in a field of poppies at Troon Vineyard. I was memorized as these large paper thin flowers bobbed and teetered on their long thin stems. Dancing in the breeze with a fragility that can only be appreciated if you leave the flower untouched. The poppy warns "do not pick me, for I will wither away". Perhaps that's why I hold this bloom dear. A temperamental flower that refuses to look beautiful anywhere except where it chose to root.
I wanted the personality of the poppy to shine through in this piece. Using a thicker gauge copper, I was able to mimic the paper like petals through forging out each section to give it a lightness. In order to keep it feeling organic, movement and texture were ver important. By using chemical reactions rather than paint I was able to preserve even the thinnest marks. Created using my own photography and no computer assistance, this piece is truly an original.

December 15
Copper, Steel
Size 35.5" x 30.5"
Driving through Independence Or one evening I was hit with inspiration. At dusk the sky turned bright orange and the landscape around it turned to shadow. A feeling of calm washed over me as we drove along the country roads weaving through the orchards. Each tree black against the sky. I knew I wanted to recreate the feeling. In recreating the feeling I also knew the sky had to glow orange. It had to give the feeling the light was coming from just beyond the mountains. I spent a lot of time making sure the shadow effect was coming through. I sanded the background so that when the light reflects it give this circular pattern as if mimicking the sun. I created this piece after such an amazing weekend. One that brought my path so much confirmation. I hope this piece finds you calm and gives that feeling for driving in the countryside.

Reaching
Copper, Steel
Size 28" x 23.5"
The side of a rocky mountain doesn't seem the place for a bush. Clinging to a rock reaching past the shadow for sunlight. But yet, that is exactly what I saw driving through the Cascades. Every new day greeted with hope and a renewed sense of belonging. The bush provides shade to the grasses and wildflowers that grow beneath it allowing them to flourish during the hot dry summers. The roots stability to the little soil that remains when the rains come in the winter. Every person, every thing has its place and purpose but you can never stop reaching for it. Although it may be just out of grasp, tomorrow brings new growth and new opportunities within reach. The branches and mountain side made of steel. The leaves, grasses, and background created from copper. The background having a blued patina, while the leaves heat treated giving it the hues of pinks and reds, every part welded meticulously into place. Please keep out of the reach of children.
